Having just discovered this site, I see that the original vinyl of 'Stupidity' is a collectors item. I have one of the first 20,000 copies with the free single, and am curious as to how much they are changing hands for - can anyone tell me ?
Thanks to the Band for the great gig at The Guildford Civic in December with 'Nine below Zero' The crowd were stiffs but my wife and I had a blinding time at the front!
When are you coming to the south coast again?
Keep the faith,
Andy from Brighton
know it's
a bit early, but are there plans for a 1999 memorial get together, only
coming from Scotland a few of us would like to know as far in advance as
poss. to organise holidays, accomodation etc? Also, how are tickets organised?
As an aside, we (Al Finney guitar, Stuart Gardiner bass, Mark Arnold Drums,
myself vocals & 2nd guitar) currently have a band playing some Feelgoods
(well, trying, anyway) Pirates etc. We were hoping to call ourselves "The
Big Figures" in honour of the great man, if nobody objects. We've
not sorted out any gigs yet (Glasgow area), but if anyone's interested
I could keep you informed.

Thanks for putting that song on the front of your web site for a while Gabi, I was pleased to see it there and that it made your day!:-)
There was an article to do with Lee in an issue of "Uncut" magazine a few months ago I was just wondering if you where aware of it.
Should be catching the feelgoods with NBZ in december.
Bill
My first Feelgood experience was back in 1984 when I saw them play in a club called Yesterday's in Bristol. From the moment Lee blew into his harp I was hooked, for the next few years I followed the band around and actually had the fortunate experience of being on a first name basis with Lee. Being very young in those days I was probably star struck and definately had a huge crush on Lee, I'm sure Lee had his fill of sycophants and doe eyed fans but not once was he impatient or rude to me, he always acknowledged my presence and gave me some of his time. I have very fond memories of hitching lifts to places like Taunton and Cheltenham to see the boys play and feeling very proud one night when Lee invited myself and a couple of friends backstage for a beer. The last time I saw the Feelgoods was in 1988 afterwhich I left England to emmigrate to Sydney, Australia. In the early days I aways kept a look out for tour dates and always wondered why they never came out here, obviously Lee's illness prevented them. I would love to see the band again, although for me it could never be the same. Lee's death was an absolute tragedy he was a good, decent man and will remain in my memory for all time as a true gentleman.

Dear Dr. Feelgood
I am a great fan of you and the band and I was wondering if there is a
fundamental possibility that you play for a private occasion?
The place where the concert should be hold is in Winkel near the airport
of Zürich in Switzerland.
I really would estimate a positiv reply and hope to hear from you soon.

hi all,
every time i'm on the net, i'm checking the newsgroups and the mailing
lists - besides gabi's site, of course ;-) - for either one dedicated to
dr. feelgood. i don't know of any. i'm thinking REAL hard of kicking either
a newsgroup or a mailing list into life. i know about mailing lists (actually
my second choice, since i suppose this is quite a lot of work), but absolutely
nothing of how to go about with a newsgroup. does anybody know wether and
where i can find such information on the net. i do know that you have to
ask some sort of an internet comittee and you have to really convince them,
that the one newsgroup you want, is the one that's really needed. or even
better, would there be a consolidated effort to push this?

I first saw the Feelgoods at Newcastle City Hall (England) when dragged along by a mate. I was a mid teenager learning guitar and Wilko's style and presence had a major influence. I now play in a Band called The Rhythm Bandits around the North East of England. We do Feelgood, Thoroughgood, NBZ (+ our stuff) covers. If you like Feelgood, etc., you'll like our stuff - and we don't take things too seriously. Please check our site http://web.onyxnet.co.uk/Rhythm.Bandits-onyxnet.co.uk and send me an e mail - or check out our gig guide and come to see us.... I've loved every incarnation of the band and enjoyed the current line up at The Cellar Club a few months ago. Might see you all in Leeds...

Does anybody know if Dr Feelgood are going to Greece on 5-8 of June?
Hey Gabi..do you know this Graham Parker song.. it could have been written for you!:-)
We got a Lady
Doctor,
She cures our pain for free,
We got a lady doctor,
Well there ain't nothing wrong with me!
Has anyone else noticed the debt Paul Weller owes to Wilko's guitar style..(in particular early Jam Stuff)...has Paul ever aknowledged Wilko's influence?...

Here is a Wilko Johnson Story for you that was in an issue of "Q" magazine a couple of years ago or so.
Wilko and his band had finshed there set and where sitting in the dressing room , and this guy had managed to get backstage and walked into the dressing room and said "Hey Wilko great gig, bet you don't miss the Feelgoods then!" Wilko just stared at him and said "Piss off, kid!"
I think this story put we off asking Wilko for his autograph at a gig in London last year when he and Norman walked through the public entrance about 5 mins before they got onstage, Norman was carrying his bass! But it was a cool gig nevertheless.
Are these
the kind of stories you meant Gabi, or did you mean interesting ones?:-)
PS Well done for getting the award your site!

I met Lee a few years back, at Norwich University, We had been to see Feelgood at the Christmas gigs for many years at Ipswich Corn Exchang, anyway, just before the gig at Norwich, we popped down to the pub outside the hall and there was Lee having a quick drink before the music started. I went over and said hi, and he was a real gentleman, we had a chat and I thanked him for all the music we had enjoyed, and he thanked me...saying, if it wasnt for you fans, we wouldnt be playing for you now...what a Gentleman...a big loss to all, still gets me when I listen to him singing on a record, especially The Feelgood factor album.
Still, Mr
Gage...you are doing fine..
To the band...Thanks again, and more.
Best Regards
and Thanks

I am a British Army officer cuurently serving in Toronto. I have been hooked on Feelgood since my schooldays in the mid-late seventies. I remember seeing them for the first time at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1979, I think. I bought the "Speeding Through Europe" poster which I still have! The music and culture has remained an influence - there is little these days to compare it with in terms of energy, passion and frankness. I have no particular message, just to say "hello" to all the "thirtysomethings" who have developed a passion for the best pub rock band in the world.

Re: Life and Feelgood (22-July-98 05:44 - VIA E MAIL)
just found
two pieces of the Collection in
local store, and the other one is now for sale.
Serious offers invited, money or something to
trade with.
I went online
christmas eve 97 and found this site in Jan 98 and what a nice surprise
it was.
I hail across the Thames from Canvey Island ie. Isle of Sheppey, Kent and
emigrated to Toronto 10 years ago. I first heard Feelgood in 75 at age
15 and Wilko was my idol as such, I had a faded jean-jacket with his name
written on the back which I wore to school with pride although hardly anyone
knew who the hell Wilko was!
Some mates and I saw them on the Stupidity tour at Hammy Odeon and got
talking to an old couple on the tube after the gig, this couple asked to
look at one of the album covers I had "borrowed" from the foyer
display and pointed to their son, it was Lee Brilleaux. So I said "you
are mr& mrs Brilleaux then?" they replied no and told me their
name. (As I dont know if its a secret I shan't mention it)
When Wilko quit I was extremely upset and as great as Feelgood always were/are,
they were never the same, an opinion I gave to Lee B. when I met Feelgood
after a gig in Chatham, Kent when Johnny guitar took his turn (did a great
job too). Lee listened to my opinion and accepted it like a gentleman (I
was most dissapointed!!!) no seriously he was very understanding.
I saw Wilko in Gravesend when the Solid Senders started out and the last
time I saw him was when I lived in Kensington, London and he played as
the Wilko Johnson Band at The Nashville pub (last I knew it was the Three
Kings). I was at the front and near the end got up on stage, I had my left
arm around Wilko's shoulder as he fingered the strings I strummed his telecaster
as a song was ending. Then some bouncers grabbed me away and just before
they catapulted me head first into the crowd Wilko ran over grabbed my
hand, shook it and shouted "thankyou". What an unbelievable night
so far. After the gig ended I wanted to meet Wilko so I pretended to be
a roadie and started packing up the cords etc. then walked thru the back
to the tiny "dressing room" and there was Wilko just sitting
there wiping off his guitar. I asked if I could sit on the other chair
and he said sure. Well we sat and chatted for 30-40 minutes about everything
I ever wanted to ask Wilko and he sat and talked as if he had all night,
no rush, no fuss, in fact it was me who said I had better be going. We
talked about my teenage hero, the break with Feelgood, even the fact I
didn´t want to play guitar because I would copy his style. Rod Stewart
said never meet your idol for he had and was let down, well I did and I´ll
never forget that night. I always felt I knew this man and gratefully I
found I did.
P.S. Lee B's parents (if thats who they were) told us Wilko's real name
but again I dont know if that´s a preferred secret so, mums the word!!!
Keep up the excellent work Limeys!

Concerning
the concert in Heidelberg, January 21st:
f---ing great .... keeep on rockin` ;-)
Greetings Uli and Andreas
I saw the
Feelgoods and NBZ on a double bill before Christmas and I have to sat The
Feelgoods where very dissapointing and quite frankly upstaged by NBZ. The
Feelgoods set was dissapointing all the songs we have heard so many times
before, very little off there newer albums.
The current line up would be knackered without Steve Walwyn yet they only
played one of his original songs, there was about 6 Wilko songs in the
set, and much as I like hearing them I'd heard them done properly when
I saw Wilko the month before! I also heard a interview with Pete Gage before
the gig and there wont be a new album this year, and talked about all the
band doing other things..
I should be catching Micky Jupp this weekend...anyone know what that might
be like?
Bill
It just kills
me that there are a few Feelgood songs I´ve never heard in my life!
I´d give my left arm to hear rare singles B-sides like "Don´t
Underestimate Your Enemy", "Something Good", "Rocking
With Somebody New" and "What Do You Think Of That".
Can anybody help? I´m desperate! I sing and play the bass in a Swedish
Feelgood cover band and would love to add a few of these to our songlist,
but since I´ve never heard them it´s not so easy. If you´ve
got any of these, send me an E-mail and I can probably think of a nice
swap for you since I´ve got some other strange stuff in my collection...
All the best, Totte
