LIVING ON THE HIGHWAY

(by John Butterfield)

The Feelgoods are back once more I had the pleasure of 3 days on the road in October 1995 - here follows a brief report.

OCT. 19 arrived at the Springhead, Hull at 6.30 pm, band already doing sound check "If my baby quit me". Beer £ 1.34 pint and very tasty so many pints flowed smoothly down throats prior to showtime. Venue was sold out with over 250 present - excellent crowd and after show more drinks followed.

OCT. 20 10 am spent an hour at nearby Travel Lodge answering letters to the Info Service before rest of band/crew awoke for breakfast - Kevin, Pete, Steve, Phil, and Nick Finnegan. At 12.00 convoy of my car and Feelgoodmobile set off for Manchester stopping at Doncaster for 1 hour en route to allow some time in a music shop known to Kevin - Steve bought a guitar case, Pete bought some harps, I bought some fish and chips. Arrived at hotel at 4.45 allowing one hour to rest before seeking out the Roadhouse in Piccadilly. Soundcheck then off to the nearest pub with old friend Mick Freeman who we met at the gig. I interviewed Pete Gage for the newsletter then off to the Feelgoods favourite curry house in Manchester for some good eats before returning to the pub then on with the show. As it was a late exit we arrived back at the hotel at 3 am, had a small party in Steve's room before I called it a day at 4 am.

OCT. 21 9 am What a stupid time to cut grass especially outside our room - forced Phil and I to get up at 11 am and off we went. As it was Saturday we decided to catch a Football match so ended up at 2 pm entering Highfield Road to see Coventry play Sheffield Wednesday. We both enjoy football - Phil supports Southend Utd and myself Guisborough Town (Northern League). We arrived at Leicester University at 6 pm to find the rest of the Feelgoods already there. I met some more old friends Bob Southall, Mel (last saw her in 1989 so had a lot of news to catch up on), Steve Smith and wife (long term member of service but I had not met until today). Another great show then off in my car back up North to arrive home at 4 am - tired but glad to be able to have been BACK ON THE ROAD AGAIN.
